Sad little Nettie

Recommended Posts

My little Nettie has become very lacklustre recently. She doesn't move around much, either in or out of the run. She sits down a lot. She appears to be eating very little and has not laid an egg for about 2 weeks. I have wormed all chickens this week, but it has made no difference to her. Can anyone suggest anything?

I used Verm-X. The other three chickens are ok, but I will check for lice & mites when she comes into the pod tonight. Thank you for your reply.

Verm-X seems to get mixed feedback this forum. Personally I used Flubenvet wormer which you can buy online.

May be worth dusting with louse powder regardless. Lice can be hard to spot. My vet said she'd seen one on Stella last week, but when I said "oh show me where", we checked and checked and couldn't find it again.

If she's not eating much, can you tempt her with cucumber/grapes, or her normal pellets/mash mixed with water. I don't like to give bread to my chooks normally, but when Stella was ill last week I did give her a little bread soaked in loads of water which was the only thing she would eat.

Having just wormed them with Verm-X, can I now use Flubenvet straight away? I give my chickens grapes quite often (they love them), but Nettie doesn't seem too interested in them anymore either.

This morning she seems a little bit brighter, but will try to get a vet appointment asap. Thanks for your help.
