Fourbecameeight
My white star had poo on the back, i think she must have sat under one of the other girls at the wrong moment. Fearing fly strike i have given her a bath using a small amount of baby shampoo in the water. I dried her using towels and have put them all in the WIR away from the wind and i thought she would have plenty of time to full dry before bed because it is a nice day here. BUT i forgot i had made them a lovely dust bath in the new WIR and i now have a BLACK white star. So do i a) wash her again and remove the dust bath or b) see what comes off as she dries or c) something else? Any suggestions gratefully received, i thought i was doing the right thing. She is my daughters chicken and i am going to be in a lot of trouble when i pick her up from school.
kitchens
I'd leave her. You've washed her and checked her over and you've found nothing .... as for her being dirty, if she'd got wet in the rain she'd have done the same so I wouldn't worry. It's supposed to rain tomorrow anyway so she can have a shower then
chelsea
I would leave her aswell. My white cochin was in a dreadful state post broodiness and 2 weeks later after dustbathing every day she is back to pristine.
Fourbecameeight
Thank you I think I will leave her. I have come back from the school run and she looks better already. She is always a mucky chicken and never looks white. I don’t worry normally but this time it was poo and i was worried about flies. It was my first time giving a chicken a bath and she seemed to like it. Is there a better way to dry them if i have to do it again?
chelsea
cool/warm button on the hairdryer. We always blow dry our girls and they love it (sends them to sleep). We have our washing machine & tumble dryer in the garage - place one chook on top of the washing machine and dry away. Much quicker and effective than towel drying and they come out with bouffant hair doos
