Each day I learn something new

Recommended Posts

Harriet has not been 100% for a few days now.

She has been mopey before then just laid a soft egg, so we just kept a watchful eye on her.

However, Tuesday evening she laid a yolk (no shell at all), which she and Barbara ate and enjoyed. Yesterday I found the soft shell for that and a collapsed shell (looked and felt like cooked chicken in case anybody else has had this too).

This morning, not eating or drinking so off to the vets.

Had also started to extend her neck too, this "yawning" motion.

Harriet had a very thorough examination, not amused !

Nothing more to pass by all accounts, but vet is pretty sure that she has a respitory infection, which could be correct as Flo has not shifted hers yet.

I asked about the soft eggs again and apparently the chooks will lay soft eggs if there is another underlying problem that they are trying to fight off.

I had no idea about this so thought I would share.

Harriet has already perked up and all of the others will be treated as well for 10 days.

Fingers crossed, all will be well.

Regards

Liz

yes, that is it. Foul (excuse the pun) isn' it.

Can't believe how much she has perked up - nice full crop and even managing a bit of scratching.

I have just called the vets to update - think he will be pleased. Yes, he is a very nice chap. New to the practice and seems very knowledgable about chooks which is a great relief.
