Zoey81
Last week my matriarch hen Matilda had a bit of an off day, she was moping around, puffed up a bit, off her food and water so I began to wonder if she could be Egg bound. I read through a lot of the posts on here so I knew what the symptoms were but the next day she was fine, back to normal and eating so apart from just giving her a once over, I left her alone. It's now been almost a week with no eggs from her, she was a regular laying chook, only just over a year old and she is fighting fit, eating, drinking, chasing the others around as usual. I can't find any explanation as to why she'd just stop laying Anyone got any ideas? I've checked her vent, felt her abdomen, not lumps or anything that might be an egg stuck and she's not off it in any way! I'm puzzled! My other two are fine, an egg a day every day, but Matilda seems to be on strike!!!
moochoo
If she is behaving normally, I'd not worry too much. Chances are she's just having a break. One of my girls used to do that a lot. Keep an eye on her just to make sure her abdomen doesn't swell or she starts walking strangly in case it's peritonitis. It wouldn't hurt to worm her and keep off the treats for a while to encourage her back into lay. Hope you get an egg soon.
