Wilma is mopey - she is fine now

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Wilma is trying to pass something, looking very miserable.

She passed two eggs in quick succession about 4-6 weeks ago (one soft and one normal) and since then has been fine.

Is there anything I can do to help her get it out ? ie a syringe of something ?

I have zolcal D, but not sure if a dose of it is the right thing to do.

I also have cod liver oil and baytril.

She was on the nest this morning and think it was her that passed a shell less egg though can't be sure it was hers.

Can't find a chemist yet that sells liquid paraffin

How long do you let them try and pass before helping ?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Regards

Liz

Can you see anything when she strains?

I'd give her the Zolcal-d; not only does it help with shell formation etc but with their contractions, so if she's a bit deficient it will help.

I'd take a look at her in the morning - she may pass another softie overnight or something.

If you can see an egg there, she'll probably need to see a vet.

Kept her in last night as she wasn't keen to go in with the others.

She has not passed anything untoward yet, just white yolky liquid with some poo as well which to means she is definately trying to pass something

I have now found a chemist that sells liquid paraffin, my dear parents are picking it up en route to mine to check on Wilma and I will meet them there (taking ahalf day) to get some into her and hopefully whatever is in her will come out

Hope it works !!

I had kept Wilma in as the others had pecked at her when I tried to reunite this morning before I went to work.

My Parents / chicken / cat sitters came round just after 11:00 to carry out their usual duties and found Wilma upstairs !

They put her back out with the others in their part of the garden and she went straight to the nest and passed some rough soft shell.

I found the egg she laid upstairs under our desk - what a clever chook, knew she had to go upstairs to lay !!

Anyhow, it looks like she has only passed part of a broken shell so have given her a dose of paraffin liquid and cleaned her up but she is fine, eating, digging and not being pecked by the others.

So relieved !!
