mayflower
Hi, I noticed today that the comb of my head hen Annie has slightly changed colour. 2.cms of her comb is now the colour of native foxgloves....purple! Actually it looks really pretty. Annie has always had a damaged comb. When we first brought her home half of it covered her right eye completely, and although it looks more upright now, the comb still looks like a hat worn in a jaunty style. Annie is eating, drinking and laying well and still very friendly. So I do'nt know why her comb should change colour. She did'nt much care for the hot weather a couple of weeks ago, and was snoozing during the day. So any ideas why her comb should change colour would be gratefully appreciated. Egluntyne
Sometimes a purple tinge to the comb can indicate a heart problem.
mayflower
Hi Egluntine, Sorry to be slow in replying, but have been on night duty. Yes, I wondered if it was a heart problem too. This last two days the comb has been the usual red. Maybe the heat of the sun was too much for her. I have put up adequate shade, but in that hot weather even in the shade the temp. was high. Thanks for replying. x
