Specks of blood in poo

Recommended Posts

The last of my original ex-batts, Duchess, was really off colour this morning - sat headpressing in the corner of the run with her eyes closed while the others were sprinting around trashing the garden and loitering under the bird table.

Having taken her straight to the vet, and post-baytril, she picked up after a few hours and has been pottering around this afternoon but has 3-4 specks of what looks like blood in her poo. Has anyone had this before? Is it a sign of worms?

She stopped laying regularly a couple of weeks ago, but no obvious signs of egg problems. (Can't feel egg, not hot or swollen, not walking funny.)

I do hope she's going to be OK.

Hi im not totally sure so dont get too worried but blood in chickens poo can usually mean coccidiosis which unfortunately is deadly. It can kill your chickens. BUT it is cureable so id take them to see a vet as soon as possible if you want to save their life. But as i say im not an expert, ive just read up about that sort of stuff.

Thanks for the reply, mattaz. The vet gave me some poo pots, so I will have a sample sent off. But whatever she has, it is responding well to baytril, she is doing beautiful iced-gem-style poos today and is back to her old bullying top chook ways. :)
