Pale comb

Recommended Posts

Hi

We've had one of our six a bit off colour for about ten days. She seemed to take herself off from the others. We thought she was broody but she seemed much better the last few days and while not with the others a lot she is eating with them and will join in the general rush when treats are put in the run. But tonight when we went down we noticed her comb was really pale comapred to the others. Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks, Lindi

It could be a sign of illness, or it could be that she's moulting. It's hard to diagnose anything just from that, have you had a look to see if her crop feels odd or if there's any sign of a problem at the other end?

Is she laying, and is she eating and drinking normally as far as you can tell?

One of the best indicators of illness is if they are not joining in with the others, in fact if they don't look 'busy' all the time.

Hi

Thanks for that. Her crop feels normal but there are more feathers about than usual and she is looking rather tatty so I think maybe she is moulting. I'll keep a close eye on her for a few days.
