beach chick
I'm pretty sure Meringue, my marans, is an egg-eater. I havent had an egg from her in 6 months, tho I've seen her go into the nest box to lay. apart from standing there and waiting to snatch it out from beneath her (which I've tried, not as easy as it sounds!) does anyone have any ideas? I've tried the plastic eggs in the nest box, makes no difference (although they are white and all my girls lay brown/beige/blue/green ones - I dont know if chickens can see colour?!) internet opinion about mustard covered eggs seems to vary - some say it works, others say chooks cant taste it anyway. I havent tried it as not sure of best way to make mustard stick to a plastic egg... I almost wouldnt mind, but I have my suspicions that she is also eating the other girls' eggs from time to time as well!! They are starting on tylan tomorrow for sneezing, so maybe I could use some of the real eggs covered with mustard instead as a deterrent (cant eat them for 10 days vet says). all ideas gratefully accepted!!
