Chickens not laying

Recommended Posts

Our girls appear to be on strike and have not laid for about 4 - 5 weeks. They do not seem unhappy and I can't see any problems. They are feeding and drinking and roam around quite happily. We used to get 2 - 3 eggs a day from 4 chucks, but now we get 1 a day if we are lucky and that is usually broken (fragile shell or they peck at them).

Should I be worried or are they just getting a bit tired? They have pellets and grit - is there anything we can add? Are they eating too much grass? Perhaps we should confine them to the coop?

Hi there :)

You could keep them in their run till at least mid morning/lunchtime to ensure they fill up on pellets and keep treats to a minimum/afternoons only.

Have they been wormed recently? If not a course of Flubenvet may get them going again

Do a quick once over on the hens for lice/mites - it's summer so lice are about.

Or - they may be going through a moult or becoming broody........

Do you have any signs of broodiness? I have 1 broody & 1 moulter here at the moment so not many eggs either
