Bullied chicken

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help us with a HUGE problem that we have. We had 4 very happy chickens and then one passed away. We thought that it would be a good idea to introduce another and bought beautiful Ginger. However the others have turned very vicious and appear to have ripped right through the skin on the top of her head. We thought initially that the attacks would stop once the pecking order had been established, and we tried squirting the others with water when they attacked her and also tried anti peck spray but that didnt work. The daytime attacks appeared to be becoming less. I would wait until the others were tucked up inside the eglu at night and then place Ginger carefully in there, which seemed to work ok until two nights ago... they completely went mad and have attacked her so bad that he head is red raw and the inside of the eglu is splattered with blood. It was horrific.

We are now nursing her in our house, and she is recovering well; eating and drinking ok and quite alot of energy. But obviously she cant stay in our house forever and this is where we need help. Do we keep trying to introduce her when she has recovered, or do we make her a seperate home (if so do we need to get her company) or do we return her to the farm. We really dont know which way to turn. Has anyone got any suggestions?
