"More than one a day?"

Recommended Posts

GNR Please can someone help me? I am new to having chickens (although I've only had them 2 weeks it feels like I've always had them). But this morning I had 3 eggs laid by the same chook. (Aggy - a black Pepperpot, and Bella - a Ginger Nut). Aggy lays speckled eggs and Bella light brown ones, and Bella had laid 3 eggs? Ranging from the first one quite small (size of a large marble) and the last one huge (mega gobstopper size). Is this fairly normal when they are settling in? It might just be a thankyou for the treats they have every evening - they will devour a lettuce in seconds and last night they had pasta. Please help as I'll think there's something wrong.(blue eglu)

Not unusual at all in the early days, until they get the hang of it. :D So long as they are eating and drinking and bobbing about, they will be fine.

It might be worth reducing the amount of treats they have so that they eat up their pellets and get the optimum nutrition.

GNR Many thanks for your help. They are both eating and drinking as usual and seem perfectly happy, they do only get a small treat each evening, but they did manage to find the last lettuce when they were out in the garden over the weekend so there's none left now anyway. I'm filling their pellets and water every other day and check at least twice a day just in case (I know it's just nerves at the moment, and that when I get used to having them around I'll calm down). once again, many thanks I just wanted some reassurance really.(blue eglu)
