after 3 1/2 weeks ive just given the woodchips a really good rake for the 1st time,

 

1. lifted the eglu & run onto the lawn,

2. sprinkled some stalosan , diatom , eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil (not got any citronella yet) onto the 3"or 4" of hardwood chips,

3. give the woodchips a really good rake and mix,

4. sprinkled some more stalosan , diatom , eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil onto the 3"or 4" of hardwood chips,

5. light rake to level off,

6. replaced eglu & run.

 

all seems to be pretty clean, no major fly or smell problem and ive never poo picked in the run.

 

the thing is, stalosan & diatom are pretty expensive to be sprinkling about rather liberally so how much do you recommend i use and what difference would it make ? i gave it a thin sprinkling of each twice, about a handfull each time.

I would recommend 'bulk buying' to save you money

 

Personally, i do not have woodchips in my eglu run but i believe that a handful evenly spread out would be just as effective as using quite alot.

 

Also, how regularly do you clean out the run? because if you could work out some sort of 'chook timetable' i believe that might help you manage the amount of potions and lotions you use
