Greedy chooks

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a question regarding feeding.

Flora one of our rangers seems to be always hungry and no matter we put in the run for them all to share she is straight in and gobbles it up.she has started jumping up when you walk in the run grabbing at whatever you have in your hands and my partner bent down to hang a corn on the cob up and she jumped on his back.

Is it just that she is a greedy/bolshy chook or is there something that I can feed that will fill her up a bit more.

They have been wormed and at the moment get layers pellets which are available at all times, fruit and veg, mixed seeds and natural yoghurt as and when.

They free range and they have access to grit/eggshell.

I would be very grateful for any advice as she is starting to get a bit of a handful.

thanks

Alli

I've got a couple rangers who are also permanently hungry - even though they've been wormed and are fed well.

Is yours laying? I found that when mine made that transition between 'point of lay' to 'laying' their appetites kind of went berserk.

You could try feeding her a little mixed corn before she goes to bed. That might tide her over... or you could squirt her with a water pistol if she's really being naughty.

Hiya

She has been laying for about 2-3 weeks now and hasnt missed a day,I did wonder if it was that causing her to be hungry.

We have been giving them some corn before bed,not sure now if thats not making her worse as she's now expecting it.
