not so broody now?

Recommended Posts

beauty, the worlds broodiest chuck, appears to finally be calming down as far as the role of mum is concerned  for the first time in absolutly weeks she crouched down and allowed me to pick her up! she usually runs off and rounds up her off spring! i'm hoping that this is a sign that she is now finally beginning to chill out a bit. the chicks are now 10 + weeks old and are beginning to act like embarassed teenagers do when their parents try to cross them over the road in front of their mates  when they are free ranging they are spread out all over the garden and beauty spends all of her time running round clucking at them, she gets ignored most of the time...boy do i know how that feels!

the biggest hint that she is letting go was the fact that the cat was in the garden for over an hour today sunning himself on the patio just feet away from the chicks and she remained calm. she has either realised that harley is too fat and idle to harm the chicks or she is letting them use their own judgement. either way the garden remained calm with chicks, mum, cat and dog all sharing the sun happily. i'm hoping this is a sign of things to come

i did try to capture this kodak moment but they had all moved before i had chance

(sorry just realised that this is probably in the wrong place! it should be on hatching and raising chicks)
