how can I slow down egg making

Recommended Posts

I really fear this will kill this old girl, she will often do a nomal egg am, followed by a softee pm... and sometimes a softee gets backed up 7 she will do 3 in one 12 hours.

So now we have had bleeding anda large clot.

Vet says to reduce her daylight but she has done this since last Autumn... so this alone won't help.

Any help would be great"

A horsey person saoid that too much wheat can stop calcium absorbtion, but I have 2 poorly girls & a disabled one & not had time to look it up.

I have got indigo wheat & also oats (showing lack of knowledge here with the oats. that's corn is it?)

Don't want to majke a bad situation worse with the shell less bit though!

Corn is technically maize but gain gets called corn straight wheat is just wheat on its own I see it recommended on a certain poultry magazine's forum when this type of questrian is asked sometimes as a winter feed to

I use it instead of mixed corn as a treat

Did a littleresearch last night.

seems this has been researched and young chiockes reared solely on wheat do gain weight. However older hens fed(again SOLELY wheat. Died within 3 months.

I got the wheat as read it was less fattening and "heating" than mixd corn for through the summer months.

Naturally I don't expect any of us to go to those extremes. Interstingly wheat is higher in calcium content that maize!

Still need to look some more.

Thanks for the exchange of ideas & info. will find research & put in link but was on someone elses pc last night.

Some guest eh?

They sometimes have a blip and do lay softees but if you are constantly getting soft eggs, you need to take her out of lay and let her have a rest. To do this stop feeding her pellets and just feed corn. This will bring on a moult and egg laying will stop. Once the moult has started, put her back on the pellets. She maybe in a moult for couple of months, but this will let her laying tackle have a good rest.

Hope this helps.
