feather breakage

Recommended Posts

We have noticed that our Black rock has a lot of broken feathers on her upper leg and sides, leaving just 2cm of feather. She also has some unwelcome visitors that look like thread worms in her droppings and we wondered if there is any connection. She still is a happy, healthy inquisitve lady and laying an egg every day . All our other hens seem to be moulting in the normal way and have not been pecking at her, she's top chick anyway! The vet has reccommende Verm-x for the worms but it doesnt seem to be working any ideas or comments would be welcome and a reccomendation of an alternative worm tratment. many thanks Frankie

Hi Frankie :D

Welcome to the forum

Most people seem to favour Flubenvet as a wormer. Verm X is more of a preventative although most would agree that it does not even really prevent them

You can buy Flubenvet on line

As for the feathers, I would say that it sounds similar to some of my hens in the past and it has been caused by feather pulling.

Even top chooks seem to allow others to pluck them.

Maybe watch them closely for a while to see if you can find out who is pulling feathers and then put a bumper bit on them for a while :D
