GGLGirls
Hi all. Need your help. My 3 Gingernut rangers are around 6 months old now and have been laying everyday since beginning of July. Suddenly one of our Girls, Lemon, stopped laying her egg on Saturday and hasnt had anymore since this morning. She went "upstairs" to her nesting box and laid a very small not much larger than a "quail size" egg. Her Eggs are normally brown colour with grey speckles, the shell this morning was very "tanned" with brown speckles. I have noticed her feathers are moulting at the tops of her legs over the past couple of weeks. Not sure if its connected. Anyone any ideas ? Lemon eats less than my other two girls but the amount of treats havent changed (they get their favourite treats sultanas when OH attempts to put them away or sweetcorn every other day). Egluntyne
It will be connected. It sounds as if she is going through a moult, which affects their laying.
GGLGirls
Thanks for the reassurance, Ive since seen the Egg leaderboard so see that its not uncommon to have tiny eggs. Think I was more concerned for her not laying. Think I'll go home tonight and weigh it. Can Chickens become Egg bound - if thats not a silly question? When you dont know whats happening you tend to think the worst.
emmat
Hello - 2 of my ladies stopped laying when they moulted - lasted a few weeks. And when the weather got very cold earlier this year. She'll be fine when she's grown her new tights!
