eggysue
hi, my lawn needs some feeding before winter sets in, my chickens do freerange on it but mostly at the weekends. does anyone know if lawn feed is safe for hens. i wandered about organic but they all seem to say store away from children and pets even though they say children and pets can use the lawn straight away. obviously though, they are not suffing it down their necks faster than they can swallow. thanks eggysue
Chook n Boo Mum
We haven't had to feed nor scarify the lawn since we got the chooks so sorry I can't offer any advice re suitable products & practises. I would ring the manufacturers & ask their advice if you don't have any luck on here, good luck, Sha x
Chucky Mama
We used to have a company that came to feed and weed the lawn. When we got our chickens I asked him if the stuff he used was safe for them. He said 'I've got another chicken owner and she hasn't had any problems so I guess it is ok'. I don't have him anymore! Our lawn is in good shape and the girls did eat some of what he put down so as they scarify it beautifully and it looks good I don't bother. I guess that anything 'organic' and 'safe' will also be tasty!
