Britannia Ovens (esp Range cookers) your experience

About four weeks ago I bought six chickens, two of them were Rhode Island Reds (Ginger and Carrot).

 

In the month we have had them Carrot has grown and her comb is becoming quite red and upright, but although Ginger has grown a bit her comb is still tiny and very pale cream coloured; they are both supposed to be about 22 weeks old.

 

Ginger is a very happy chicken, she eats like a horse and is very brave, nothing seems to phase her. She was one of the first to eat corn off of my hand

 

She did get a chest infection as soon as we got her, but after antibiotics this cleared up.

 

Do you think she is just a late developer or there might be something wrong?

 

Neither of them are laying yet but I think they are still too young.

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I got a sussex type, a speckledy and a bluebell in april/may, all 3 were 14weeks old when i got them but my speckledy (chloe) has always had a large red comb and waddles, she started laying in July, my bluebell (pheobe) seemed to start developing her red comb and 2 weeks later she started to lay, thats about 3 weeks ago and my sussex type (mia) is the same as when i got her. Just a case of waiting i think

I got 3 Light Sussex girls in June. They were all from the same hatch and were 12 weeks old. One developed an enormous comb and started laying on the 8th of September. Another started laying about a week ago, but the 3rd one still has an underdeveloped comb and looks several weeks away from laying...can't quite work that out. I would have thought that the same kind of birds from the same hatch would've come into lay around the same time - but it appears not to be the case.
