barry keane
We have 2 hens a speckled and a grey. They were bought at about 6 months old in August and have both been laying well (5-6 eggs a week) since we brought them home. The speckled has suddenly stopped laying for about the last 3 weeks. She appears to be eating and healthy to our very untrained eyes. The grey is still laying well (4-5 eggs a week) What can we do to make sure she is ok and get her contributing to our egg boxes again? Egluntyne
Have you wormed them? If not, a course of Flubenvet might be a good idea. Are they free ranging and possibly laying eggs under a shrub in the garden? It might be worth keeping them confined to the run and giving them only layers pellets and fresh water for a few days. It could be that they are eating too much 'other' stuff which is crowding out the nutritious pellets.
barry keane
Thanks for the advise, we have not wormed them so will try that. They have a small run around their eglu but have only ever laid inside and we would be able to spot any eggs anywhere else. Unlike our previous pair these two do not eat anything but layers pelets, mixed with a little corn and grit, we have not been able to temp them with any treats at all!
