what do you have as the base of your run?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Well as i have said in my recent posts i am organising the garden on sat, OH has agreed to help me sat morning! :):o

Now we have spare gravel which has been removed to create some nice flower beds (chicken free!) so we can have a pretty area in the garden.

Could this work as the base for the run? to prevent the mud? or do you think it will just end up boggy with gravel in?

I am planning on sectioning off the area of the garden with decking boards, then putting netting round for a free range area, or may consider a run extension.

I need to decide betweeen an extra run extension (currently have 2m cube run) or building a walk in run!?

If you have the option of a WIR then have a WIR :D

I have an Eglu run on mud (used to be grass). Sand and gravel just sink into the mud. Most people seem to prefer aubiose or hemcore (horse bedding) but I believe the run needs to be covered for these to work (mine is only partially covered).

Chooks love to scratch in gravel beds - garden excavation seems to be a special skill
