Pomela fruit

Recommended Posts

Can anyone suggest a NICE way to cook these. I brought 2 last weekend not knowing what they were (thought they were probably like a melon - how wrong I was). It's more like a grapefruit. We tried them uncooked and they left a bitter after taste. I made a crumble with it and even with all the sugar and all the different spices I chucked in couldn't disguise its bitter taste.

I still have one sitting on my side just looking at me. I tried my neighbours to see if they wanted it, who just laughed and said they'd bought one last year and never want to try it again!!!!

If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to suggest them. I've googled it and even that didn't come up with much, apart from salads!

Anyway to anyone reading this just don't buy this fruit - it's HORRIBLE.

Don't cook them, they're designed to be eaten raw :D . We always had pomelo fruit in our house (not quite sure why, my mum just liked them!).

You need to peel the outer thick skin off, then peel the pithy inner skins away and the juicy fruity bits will be free to pick out and eat :) . They do taste nice, honest, they're just a bit of a faff  . If yours was bitter, perhaps it wasn't ripe? It should be sweet and juicy.
