debbier
My young cream legbar (who has just started laying , yippeee!) has a bald patch on the back of her head. I suspect that she is being pecked, as she is lowest in the pecking order. I haven't seen anyone doing it, but it's been a bit nasty weather-wise to be hanging around outside for too long recently. It's only a small patch, aroud the size of a 5 or 10p piece, and doesn't look raw or inflamed, though it feels very spikey. Any ideas or suggestions as to what I could do? beulah59
My bottom ex-batt has one too! Now that we have some other hens, she's no longer at the bottom of the heap, so it's not getting any worse. I take it it will regrow when she moults? quickcluck
It will regrow before a moult if you can stop the pecking. Keep an eye for the culprit, so you can try and stop her with maybe a bumper bit...... You could spray the victim with anti peck stuff to see if that deters her..... Should it continue if it's red cover it with purple stuff...
debbier
I have a very strong suspicion that it is the gingernut who is doing the pecking. I have seen her peck tail feathers/bums a few times, but none of the others have a bald patch on the back of the head. I'll see if I can catch her at it.
