Over the last month my ex-batt Camilla has become very noisy. She is always shrieking away and really starts to screech when I put some treats down. She has also become the last one out in the mornings. As soon as I open the eglu door my other two are straight out but Camilla likes to stay in the nest box. She is usually standing up and moves around for me as I pick out the overnight droppings. She chats away the whole time. This morning there was an egg in the nest box but as I picked it up Camilla pecked me, something that she has never done before. Was she being protective of the egg? It might not even have been hers as one of my hens doesn’t lay but I haven’t worked out who yet.

my broody hen really has a go at me when I turf her off the nest twice a day! I've taken to wearing gloves to do it as her beak is fearsome!
