Welsh Steph
Hello, I have 3 warren hens that are nearly 1 year old. They have lovely red combs, wattles and earlobes except..... one of the hens earlobes have both turned white. The red lobe is still there but the skin is white on the surface. Can anyone tell me what has happened? She seems perfectly happy and healthy otherwise and is laying well. In fact I have had eggs almost everyday since they started laying. Thanks
Egluntyne
Nothing to worry about. It isn't uncommon. It is to do with pigment being removed from theyr bodies whilst they are laying.
Welsh Steph
Thank you very much - should I be giving any supplemments or just let things be? I feel much happier now. I was worried it might be frostbite!!!!
Egluntyne
I'd just leave things be. Some like to give an occasional tonic such as lifeguard, at times of stress, such as during a moult. Others like to give one regularly. No right or wrong answer here really.
