Biggies v. bantams

Recommended Posts

 Hello,

My friend wants to get some young breed chickens, maybe bantams to add to her 4 ex-bats of approx 3yrs in their cube but we don't know if maybe the big girls will bully the young/ little ones..? Also, how young can you get chickens without needing heat lamps etc?

Thanks!

I there are already big chooks I would stick with big chooks although some people ahve had sucess of mixing bantams and LF after careful intros, it could go either way though

At this time of year I would say that growers should be at least 12 weeks before living outside maybe a bit older. In the summer they are normally ok from 8 weeks

They wont be able to go out with the big girls till they are about 20 weeks though so will have to be kept separate until then when introductions can start. If getting point of lay pullets instead they will still need to be kept separate for the intros anyway though
