Poached Egg - you are the one that should have a chicken run built - no? How was it yesterday? Photos please..

 

Sage - lovely new patio - may I ask how long that took? It feels like we've bitten off more than we can chew - have now got about 20 600x 600mm slabs sitting in the garden (to match size of ones we already have - otherwise would have bought smaller ones). But they are mostly for around the raised beds that were built on Saturday (Sunday being used for trekking to and fro between home and Homebase/Wickes). We did manage to find about 40 small (350mm square I think) broken slabs (edges broken off) for £1 each - so will now use mostly those under the chicken run - and more large ones next to them for the Cube to stand on. 2 tonnes of sand and the small slabs (cheaper broken and some more half price) and 5 bags of cement are being delivered on Thursday....

 

It's all starting to look a bit mental and a bit daunting! We need to remove turf first to be able to lay first lot of slabs - and then dig down to put down sand - then paving. It's going to take beyond Easter before we have chooks I reckon.

 

Let me go and figure out how to post pictures - then I can show you where we are at so far!

That sounds like back breaking work Donna! I just know I could not do it myself, I am DIY inept when it comes to major jobs like that Good luck with it, look forward to seeing a pic of your completed job with you new cube in place

After spending 2 days shifting the soil from the raised veg bed and getting the groung flatish I got 2 men in to pave. I just don't get the time what with a 18 month daughter & working.

It took 2 men 4 hours. Total cost including pavers/sand etc £200.

I spent yesterday fixing wire mesh to 13 3*6 feet panels then screwing them together. Hoping to sort out the roof this weekend.

Hope the chucks appreciate all the hard work & blood I have shed.

I'm sure they will Sage! Well done you for constructing the run panels - ours are already meshed and just ready to screw together.

 

2 tonnes of sand not yet here - but we have work to do this weekend I'm sure!

If I could have found someone for £200 I think I'd have had them to all this for us (but our quote was £500 - and that did not include paving round the veg beds - though it did include materials).

We have been Tonied and finally got round to sorting out the signature. New girls are enjoying it full time and old girls enjoying at FR times. Fingers crossed the rest of integrating goes OK.

Hi Poached. Thanks for thinking of me. Spent all weekend out in the garden (lovely weather for it) - laying 8 slabs - and then taking them up again - yesterday and then relaying 17 slabs today. Looking good so far - but another 20 to lay before we can even start with the WIR - so unlikely to have chooks again before Easter (boo hoo). But the Cube is due tomorrow (no run - so can't even use it temporarily).

 

But I have learned so much about laying paving (eg it's very hard work, slabs won't lie flat, you will ache like mad and slump on the sofa all evening afterwards etc). FIL arrived today to direct efforts and so I am no well on my way. But now have to work for the week (actually mostly to get OU assignment done) so no chance of getting out in the garden again in the next few days.

 

So next weekend will be finishing raised veg beds and then we can start on the WIR at last. Feeling proud of progress made so far though!
