Dog Boarding kennels reviews?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a good boarding kennels for my dog when we are away, does anyone know if there are any web sites to give feedback on boarding kennels. Or how to find out how many dogs they can accomodate, I have found all my local ones but there is no information or feedback

many thanks

Donald

We have cats not dogs, but when boarding them, I always go by personal recommendation. Could you perhaps get talking to other dog owners in the area, when at your favourite dogwalking spot and get other dog owner's views.

I did this with my cats, speaking to other cat owners and found out all sorts of useful info on local catteries.

Good idea, I personally would visit and get a feel for a kennels and the staff before I left a pet. Your local vet may have a list but of course will not be able to recommend.

Thank you

I am in Herts but am now going to go to visit a local kennel(which I found had a good review) , perhaps there should be a tripadvisor type for boarding kennels(I was trying to find one that only kept a few dogs at a time)

Thanks again for the tips donald

You will probably get a vibe from it when you're there. Find out what their policy is on exercise (do they walk dogs or just let them out in a pen) and whether they will accommodate special requests, like giving special diets/medication. One near me charges £1 per tablet to be administered! Needless to say I did not take my dog there! Check the kennels are reasonably clean and not smelly and that the dogs are provided with bedding. If the owner offers to let you bring your dog for a look without checking it's been vaccinated, be wary. Also, make sure your dog has been vaccinated against kennel cough - not all kennels insist on this one, but it is highly contagious and can make dogs ill for months so get the vaccine done well before the anticipated stay.
