Poorly Hen's

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, i'm new. Nine hen's and one cockerel, came to us at christmas. All has been well, three to five eggs daily, until this week. First hen seems lethargic, eating very little. Discovered she has mites so powered. Next day, second hen appears unwell and on inspection find her tummy to be swollen. Straight to the vet who unfortunately does not have much knowledge on what to do. Has given antibiotic's (Marbocyl) Have got the girls indoors at night and returned to separate run for day. "Fat tum" is responding quite well, but first hen is not too wonderful. Any suggestions please :?:

Thanks.

The one with the swollen tummy could have peritonitis (not sure if I've spelled that correctly)

The mite will have made the others quite run down, a good poultry tonic (Lifeguard is an excellent one) will help, do be sure that all of the mite have gone though

Thanks Tasha, Id been reading the forum and more or less decided on Peritonitus, so hope the anti bios will help for her. The other girl is a bit of a mystery but hope she will be strong enough to make it through. They seem quite settled in their cat baskets each night.
