kateneal
Since November last year I have had foxes visit my garden, lucky for me they have not managed to get to my girls. On the first visit they managed to chew through three bungy ropes attaching the winter shade and had tried their best to get through the door of the run. I purchased shortly after this two fox watches which until last night I thought were having some affect. Last night I came home to find a dog fox on top of the run of my eglu. I am really at my wits end. Does anyone have any good ideas
Karen & co.
Lucky escape What a pain for you Just a thought are the batteries still OK in the fox watch? I have omlet fencing around my girls, it's not electrified at the moment, so I hope I'm not tempting fate but it works a treat with our dogs when it is electrified, Holly only got zapped once and now won't go near, Alfie is a little more shall we say cerebrally challenged and he only needed 2 zaps to learn to stay away I hope you find the solution and keep your girls safe. karen x
Helen
Hiya, We have a similar problem with not one but two foxes trying to get at either the chooks or our three rabbits. They come about 11 pm and circle the hutch, eglu and run . We know they are there as the security lights come on and the rabbits shoot up the ramp into their hutch and start thumping out alarm signals with their back feet If we are still up we let both dogs out and if in bed we open the window and shout...not that the foxes are bothered by us at all!! They don't like the dogs though!! I really don't know what to do about it , I was bothered that the fox watch would upset the dogs and our foxes are so dumb insolent I don't think they would take any notice. Any fab ideas very welcome!!!
chelsea
what about the tip of putting urine around the run....smelly I know..but does this actually work?
Helen
Good idea...how do I go about that!! I will collect some, but the run is on the patio so it could all get a bit unsavoury!!
chelsea
Hmmm....maybe not so good for summer barbeques!! I also saw Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall hanging old pairs of tights full of human hair around his chickens.....so next time you have your hair cut - keep some and get filling your tights !! worth a try
kateneal
Thank you for your replies in relation to the fox problem, I have checked the batteries on the fox watches. Sorry to hear Helen that you also have the same problem. I have to say one of my bunnies thumps so at least she notifies us to get out of bed and scare it off. We have tried the urine trick but to no avail. We have decided to construct something that sits over the egul's and runs made of bamboo treliss and wood. Helen
That sounds an interesting idea Kate, I also like the idea of human hair, I tink I have heard of that one somewhere else too. Seeing as I have quite short hair I will pay a visit to the hair dressers to see if I can empty their sweepings bin. I have no shame, I ask our local greengrocer for his veg waste to for my compost bins and wormery!!! I hate walking past a skip without having a good nose for bits for my allotment too.
