rachael_farnsworth
I came downstairs to hear Artemis trumpeting away loudly so went outside to demand a reason for this - it was only as I was changing their water that I noticed a beautiful little egg lying in the bottom of the run! I assumed it was Athene's (given that Jude thought she was nearly there when I bought her on Friday) and I was right, because about an hour later Artemis toddled off to the nesting box where she stayed for a good half hour while Athene announced to anyone who would listen that Artemis was laying an egg... (we may have to have words about the noise.) I sidled up to the eggport once Artemis was out and there, nestled in the straw, was her very first egg. I almost cried, I was that proud Pale one is Athene's, who is a Sussex Star. Weighs in at a dainty 36g (bless!). Artemis is a Speckledy and hers is 41g. Poached eggs for my lunch! Whee! I'm so pleased I got to see their first eggs on my week's holiday - coming home from work each evening next week will be so exciting Edited May 8, 2010 by Guest
