kevf1
one of my chickens has a habit of squatting down and stamping her feet when either me or the wife approach her... not all the time... she is no problem she was eating mealworms from my hand yesterday though they both are a little difficult to pick up and i don't want to stress them i just try and be around them so they get used to me and know they eventually will come to me.. but i can find anything about squatting down and stamping feet... anyone any clues? brambles
It's called 'crouching'. It's perfectly normal and shows that she is either in lay or getting ready to lay - how exciting! She thinks you're the cockrel and is showing mating behaviour! It's also great as it makes her easy to pick up and hug/ examine!
kevf1
thanks for that... they have both been laying for a while now.. although recently its been a bit sporadic.. the are hybrids and are about 18 month old... i shall have to try and pick her up next time she does it... i don't want to stress them... some weeks we get 2 eggs a day some days we get only 1.. but i'm, trying to work out if its one bird or two laying just theit seems to go in phases we'll get 2 for 5 or 6 days then we'll have 3 or 4 days with only 1.. this morning the bigger one was sat in the nest box on an egg when i went out but only 1 egg not sure if was here sor the others.. it was cold so not freshly laid.. i'm sure i'll get all this eventually
