Pecking ladies

Recommended Posts

Hi

Nothing urgent, just advice really. One of my newer ladies who has been with us now for a good few months seems to have settled in well but appears to be the butt of all of the other 6 chickens. I know that they have to dedide their own pecking order and I have tried to leave them alone. But they all seem to have a peck at her now and again and were just worried that they may hurt her during the night. I have read about an anti-pecking spray and wanted to know if this would help If I sprayed her with it. Maybe I could encourage them all to leave her alone. If so, what is the spray called.

Many thanks

Em

Hi,

Believe it or not it's called 'anti peck spray' :D . Get it from any pet shop, or the nice guys at Omlet https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Chicken+Keeping&sub=Health&product_id=615&product_name=Johnsons+Anti+Pek+spray. Do the girls have lots to do (swinging CDs, branches to sit on, stuff to forage through in the run?

You've got to be careful that she's not been picked on for any other underlying health issues.

Thank you for the name of the product I enquired about and I will order it today. I am curious about your swinging CD's. What do I do with them. My girls have a very good life, logs in their run, hidden sweetcorn and are usually out in the garden having fun with my plants. But I am all for other forms of entertainment for them if you have some suggestions. Snowy has been poorly but seems to have picked up now and appears back to normal. I did have a poorly girl before who was pecked to bleeding point by my other girls. Sadly she died so am watching this new behaviour very closley.
