maldonmenagerie
I have a bit of a mystery and would appreciate the input from any leedle grey cells out there... I have 2 lovely hens, Ada, a Rhode Island and Doris, who was bought as a Bluebelle. They are a year and a bit old and prior to their moult last autumn were regularly laying an egg a day each. Ada's were pale brown and Doris' a beautiful pale blue. Since their moult I have been getting one egg a day, a brown one. Hmmm, I thought, Doris is not earning her keep! She looks beautiful and healthy and has had extra protein rations, poutry spice, lots of cuddles etc to encourage her, but still no blue eggs. This morning she was hiding in the nestbox when I went to give them their breakfast and I was very eggcited! But...no blue egg, just a lovely warm pale brown one. Now I have a mystery on my hands... has she started going broody and is sitting on Ada's egg, or is it possible that her egg colour has changed after her moult? I can find no mention of this possibility anywhere online, so any input from you lot would be appreciated!!!
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . I'm no expert but I've only heard of changes in tint or shade not complete colour! It sounds more likely that she's broody. Good luck with that .
