Has anyone had any plastic wheelie bins ever catch a light due to combustion?

 

Last week I filled it only half full grass cuttings and two days later the wheelie bin was expanded and very hot! I am worried that during the warm summer it could catch alight.

 

May be storing it away from buildings now.

if you fill it too quickly, too high, it will get very hot, maybe add a bit of water, moist materials and keep some in a bag and add it a bit at a time, putting a lot in at once is called hot composting, keep stirring it and it should be ok.

Many thanks, most of us in our village use to compost in our gardens but since the council now offer to take it away most of us now make use of the recycle bin, I think it had the opposite green effect on us.

 

but thank you will give it a hose over, I can see it being a problem once our very hot summer arrives indie
