Egghead68
Our new chicken (a Silver Nick purchased in Feb, starting laying around 6 weeks ago) is laying several double yolkers a week as well as some softies. The double yolkers are massive and we are worried in case she has a prolapse, and also that it must be hurting her to lay them. She has layers mash, cod liver oil once a week, limestone flour once a week and a spoon of live yoghurt every day. She free ranges around 8 hours a day. She was wormed a couple of weeks ago. I am afraid we give her too many treats (corn, grapes, seeds, mealworms). Our other two chickens are fine and don't have this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions what we can do to help her lay normal eggs, please?
Chucky Mama
If she is new to this laying lark I wouldn't worry too much as it should settle. A lot lay double yolkers in the early days and then it generally stops. Your diet sounds good and if you have wormed with Flubenvet you should be fine.
