iandjsmum
Sadly we lost 3 chicks out of the 4 hatched by a broody and so now have the one appenzeller chick, who is 2 and a bit weeks old. I'm wondering how long mum willl want to stay with it and at what age it can manage without her and obviously, most importantly , what I should do about perhaps providing it with a friend. Any advice would be much appreciated. I hoped I wouldn't be in this position.
Redwing
The mum will start to get fed up when the chick is about 6 weeks old, at that point it will be fine to cope without her Get a friend for it at that stage and not before or the mum will reject the new chick This place sell chicks of all ages and are lovely people with a good clean set up, they have pure breeds as well as the hybrids listed on the website http://www.acornplants.co.uk/chickens.htm
