Aimee
After four weeks of being a chicken owner, I was starting to think they would never lay as they weren't showing any of the POL symptoms I'd read about. Went out yesterday morning as usual and thought it was a little odd that Jean and Ken were perching on the Cube ladder looking inside. As I approached, Gertie emerged out of the Cube looking a little frazzled and hey-presto, a cute speckled egg was waiting in the nest box Think it must have kick-started the whole process, as when I went out today there were two waiting for me - one large and cream and the other one small and beige. A question though. As all three eggs are different are they likely to be from three hens, or can a hen lay a speckledy one followed by a non-speckledy one? Also, have noticed today that Ethel crouches down now when I put my hand out to her. Phew! I had been stressing that she might actually be a he as her comb is so much bigger than the others and she makes a really loud crowing noise. Think she is showing POL symptoms now though.
