mole
sounds a really daft question and it probably is but can anyone tell me why chickens get these things and what causes them to happen? i was just looking at getting some diatom powder and poultry spice but wondered if i do really need it. Chucky Mama
Many of the parasites come from the wild bird population. Slugs and earthworms are intermediate host of many worm species. Regular weekly checks for crawlies and regular Flubenvet worming (you rarely see actual worms in poo - it is more likely that the microscopic eggs are in poo) should keep your girls healthy. Jools
I would definitely go with the prevention approach as it's much easier than trying to get rid of an infestation. I've used Diatom or Red Mite Powder in the house, nest box and dust bath for crawlies and Verm-x for internal parasites (though I've heard ACV works just as well). Poultry spice is a vitamin and mineral supplement, so not necessary for parasite prevention, more a pick-me-up.
