CALNICK
Hi Do any of you have chickens who are flicking their heads? We ask this as one of our girls had been unwell for a week or so, she had the syptoms of being all hunched up and eyes closed most of the time and flicking her head. She is much better now and laying, however she still flicks her head and i have another girl with the same symptoms. Any help or advice would be appreciated Calnick
Tweety
Hi, Yes, one of my girls was displaying exactly this behaviour and sadly died 3 weeks ago. I had taken her to the vet as I thought it might have been an ear infection, but the vet could find nothing wrong with her ears - and he checked them again post mortem - or with anything else. He gave her some Baytril just in case there was an infection somewhere, but she never got any better and died the next day. I am glad that your girl is better, and am sorry that I can't help with a possible diagnosis. My vet has no idea what might have caused the head-flicking other than a suggestion that she might have had a brain problem, and I didn't fancy paying £60 for a PM, so I am none the wiser I'm afraid. It may be that the head-flicking and her death were unrelated, so I hope I haven't alarmed you and I hope your other girl will be ok.
