2 Eggs a day 1 has no shell

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm new too

It's so nice to be with like minded people like you, my friends think I'm nut's how I love & care for my girls, but now I know I'm not alone

This is my first time on any forum & I'm hoping for some guidance on my hen Freda. She is a 1 year old Bova's Neer who lives with 2 others girls Jane a Sussex speckledy & Sally a Rhode Island Red, all girl's get on very well and all seem healthy. Last Tuesday we had 3 eggs as normal, then in the evening we had a storm so I put them in there large under cover run & gave them there tea. Come bedtime I noticed that Freda (all girls lay slightly different shaped eggs) had laid an egg with no shell, and not in the nest box, it was as if it just poped out! :anxious: She then stopped laying for about 4 day's I put it down to the storm, but to my surprise she done the same thing yesterday 2 eggs in 1 day 1 with a shell the other without & just in there run come the evening, and of course no egg today. The other 2 girls are laying as normal & the shells are normal, all are eating well and are bright and alert, and grit is on hand at all times. Any thought or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you from Wendy G

that has happened to us quite a few times to us, we never quited figured out what it was athough i think that they had run out of oyster grit and wern't getting enough calsium. ours only layed (or pooped out) a couple like that and then they went back to normal. it shouldn't be anything to worry about, just keep an eye on her. :)

Yep this happened to one of my girls a few days ago. I think I read somewhere that these very long summer days can sometimes sort of over-stimulate egg production. I'm not sure if there's a lot that can be done about this except to be reassured that we are rattling towards the longest day and in less than a week the nights will be drawing in.

Now there's a cheerful thought for you all :D
