Toots
I have an old second hand hive that i picked up during the winter with a plan to expand at some point or use as a second hive for swarm control. i have not needed to do anything with the hive so it has been sat at the bottom of the garden for 4 months. needs a bit of a sand and re paint but in very sound condition. I just decided that i will clean it up and noticed that there is a lot of interest with some bees! It appears i have a swarm in there! i don't know when it turned up be luckily it is away from neighbors, i flamed the insides when i picked it up! 3 hives now and i have only paid for 1 nuc! Olly
Well that's a bargain - we all dream of that happening, but Lesley has had a swarm land in her bait hive this year too,I believe. Even though you'd flamed it, perhaps they were attracted to the residual smell of honey. I hope you can get some frames in there pronto before they fill it up with brace-comb! Lesley
Congratulations! We had some free comb in ours to sort out but the bees are doing really well, we saw the queen yesterday.
