How to introduce newbies to the eglu?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Maggi is now allowing the new girls to share the walk in run (they have been in there for 6 days now). Maggi just chases them sometimes but otherwise I'm surprised at how smoothly it's gone.

The next step is to get them all sleeping together and I'm not sure quite how to do it. At the moment, the new girls have their temporary housing next to the eglu in the walk in run and keep roosting on top of it  so I've been placing them in their temporary housing after dark.

Last night at 10pm I put one of the new girls in the eglu and Maggi who was already in there pecked my hand as I was doing it and then had a go at her so she came back out. Then Maggi came out so I put the new girls in the eglu and Maggi then refused to go in the eglu.

Hmm... what to do next? Maybe I should just give it another week or so. I'm worried that if I just put the new girls in after dark, Maggi will have a go at them. :( Also, it will be difficult to place Maggi in last as she has always slept in the back right corner which means she'll have to shift the others about which I think will involve some pecking (something we've managed to avoid so far!)
