bennett
A stupid question i KNow but after reading lots of threads about ebay eggs i am now a bit concerned that none of my ebay eggs are going to hatch (due thursday). So if they dont hatch do i leave her on the eggs and hunt for some day old chicks??? It seems a shame that she has gone through all this effort to not have any babes of her own. The problem is i have gone a bit Eglu mad this month and bought another second hand Eglu to house the chicks and mum and a cube thinking that after the summer they could all go in with the existing flock into the cube So if none of them hatch then i am only going to have 4 bantams and 1 LF in the cube............. and they may all get a bit chilly in winter! ladymarmalade
This is going to be no help but thought I'd add something. I bought 6 silkie eggs from ebay and have had them under my broody hen for 3 weeks. They were due today but nothing is happening. I was wondering if I should leave them a few more days. I don't know if they hatch in the evening/night or only in the daylight. I feel like pacing up and down outside the coop! She's been such a good brooder I don't want her to be without a chick at the end of it all. Hope you get sorted out and all goes well for you! meezers
I'd get her some day olds. Like you, I'd feel bad that she'd done all that work for no reward. I'd give the eggs a couple more days. Mine started hatching on day 21, but the the last one hatched on day 23. The broody will probably know before you if the eggs are going to be any good. If she leaves the nest, they are probably duds. bennett
I would wait maybe 2 days over and then look at getting some day olds, which, having given it some thought it prob what i will do. The eggs can stay under her while you find some chicks. I will prob get some auto sexing hicks if this happens to me as at least i wont be buying chiks that i will then have to cull if they are boys My girl has been an excellent broody to. But as this is my first time hatching i will be sorely disapointed if i dont get one to hatch at least. Mine are due thursday and if there is nothing by saturday it will give me all day saturday to drive miles to find some chicks||!
ladymarmalade
We decided to candle them and the first 2 were empty. we even opened then to confirm and there was no development. We then candled the rest and 1 has movement!!!!! I'm so excited. Weve replaced all the remaining eggs back in the nest and we'll cross everything for the next few days.
