andynjanec
We incubated several eggs. This one was set 4 days earlier and hatched on saturday. Its a bit feisty and nearly jumped out of the cardboard box today.I have now put it in the hutch I use after a week for chicks. Its going nuts.it cheeps all day and wanders up and down pecking at the bars trying to get out. Heat is around 30 deg and if too hot it can move out the way, if too cold it can move near the light. the others arrived yesterday and today and one more is on the way today.I cant now put them together as it may not like the company. I have handled it and it seems content and calm when it sits in my hand although wants to have a wander round. So why is it like this? my theories are as follows. it was alone for 3 days and can now hear and see some 3 week old chicks and is frightened ? Its a cockeral and the others are less feisty hens? It didnt like the move? it thinks Im mumsie?Im actually daddy. I did put it with the other older chicks to see if it was lonely and it chased them around the run, then they decided they had enough so i took it out quick before there was trouble. Anyone have any answers?
meezers
I would imagine it's lonely. If it's only 4 days older than the other chicks, I would guess it would be alright to put it in with them. I'm sure the chick experts will be along soon to say if I'm right.
fostec1
I agree, I'd let it be with the other new arrivals. We had our first "batch" hatched over five days and they all got on ok. I worried that some were much larger then others but they have all grown up together and seem happy.
