how long from birth deos it take a chicken to get to point of lay

 

and is it the same for banatam hens???

it depends on the breed really

 

Most hens are sold as POL at about 20 weeks old

 

A hybrid will normally start laying 22 weeks ish but a pure breed could be 29 weeks with some taking 35+ weeks to lay

i have 4 rhode island reds

3 polish

a frizzle

and a pekin

the RIR and Pekins will probably be the first to lay

 

Polands take a while but lay well once they get started

Sadly they are all different and mature at different rates just like us so no one can tell you exactly when your pullets will lay they can only base their response on their experiences or what they have learned

 

The RIR were bred to lay eggs so should be the first, maybe when they are late twenties in weeks

 

Pekins normally mature pretty quickly and lay around 28 weeks

 

Polish can take longer maybe 35 weeks

 

If the frizzle is a pure bred one (clean legs) then probably about the same as the Poland, if its a frizzle Pekin then earlier

 

Some will lay faster and surprise you others will take ages!
