JulieP1
Help, I'm having to go and pick my girls up and put them to bed!! My girls have a portion of the garden and the eglu is within the fenced area without the run, they used to put themselves to bed each night but for some reason they now want to sleep sitting on the fence. What can I do? I have thought of raising the eglu off the ground and putting a ladder up into it to give them the feeling of height, am I mad. I'm about to go and catch Tracey now, I've already got Flossie tucked up. Help please Julie
beach chick
my advice would be to go out just as it is getting dusk, and put a lit torch into your eglu shining out - all mine have always followed the light and just gone to bed as good as gold... then nip out when its dark, remove the torch and shut the door!! sewitall
From posts I've read it might also be worth checking the eglu with a torch to rule out red mite as a reason for the hens not wanting to go in it.
Hen_Pecked
The torch method worked for us actually. Going to bed by themselves is about the only "good" thing they're doing at the moment!
JulieP1
Wow how mad is that, my girls were just going to settle for the night, on the fence, so I whipped in and shooed them off the fence, popped a torch in the house, rounded the girls up and they saw the light and went straight in. Will be doing the same tomorrow to see if it was a one off, fingers crossed it's not. So big thank you for your tip Julie
