I have 3 ducks and 1 drake. 1 duck has been sitting on 15 eggs. :P In the last day or so 1 of the other ducks has been sitting on the nest as well - sharing the same nest on eggs :? Is this in any way normal or does the other duck hav behaviour issues?!? Please somebody advise. Also the few eggs that hav gone cold we candled and none of those hav been firtile. Do we take them off her or will she just get bored.

Hi Gladys and welcome to the forum.

I've never had a broody duck so I'm afraid I'm of little help. Although I frequently wonder what is "normal duck behaviour", especially after seeing all five female KCs jumping on top of each other in the pond and then all just waddling off quite happily.

Good luck

Hi. My k campbell girls did the same thing with gladys the dominant duck always trying to mount the the other 2 girls, but since we have had the drake the tables have turned and gladys is being chased by Dave any time she gets off her eggs! We still have gladys and now mrs puff both sitting on the eggs, but we had to take some away as they had got cold. They still have 9 eggs. do i take them all off her when passed due date or will she just get bored? I assume it's all done by hormones. Have tried to candle the eggs but have not found any firtile ones. this is our first time! Advise is needed

Hi

I can understand your frustration - it's very hard to know what to do for the best. I have 2 females who have been very broody recently. Daff took herself off and made a secret nest (we had to follow her to find it) - she had 8 eggs and as we had no drake they were obviously infertile. We removed the eggs and the nest and she took the huff for about 10 minutes and then was absolutely fine. She has returned to normal behaviour now although she is moulting and the WIR looks like a scene from a Pheasant Shoot :? Not sure if this helps

Hi all. We have taken the eggs off of our two broody girls as the were over due. We cracked the eggs open and none were firtile so we have come to the conclusion that Dave the drake is infertile :boohoo: girls were very upset for a while and kept looking in the hutch but settled down
