Keeping your garden poo free of runny poos

Recommended Posts

Clean gardens and chickens don't really go together I'm afriad.

The best thing to do is dedicate an "untidy" area that they can scratch around in, which you could fence off with netting or a WIR.

If you can't dedicate an area, the best you can do is picking up as many poos as you can - it is great fertiliser for fruit and veg plots and can help compost heaps decompose faster because of the high nitrogen content.

The only real options over than those are to put up with (and ignore) the mess, or to get some land or an allotment where you can keep them on.

Pick up firm poos, and give curry poos a blast with a hose jet (unless you have a hosepipe ban like us) :(

We don't have a hosepipe ban but we are on a water meter, so we do try to be careful with the hosepipe

Hopefully once our WIR is built things should be easier as then we can designate an area of lawn for the hens and that should also stop our labrador from going into their part of the garden too :D

My DH has miixed the whole packet of bran in the little amount of layers pellets that we had left

The food now looks like 50% bran and I can't get any more food to mix in until at least the weekend. What will it do to my poor girls and I have to say I've now noticed their poos smell and I don't ususally- coincidence?? or because too much bran?

Any advice gratefully received
